Long-time Helena music-maker Steve Betz is at work on his fourth CD, Kaleidoscope – a follow-up to his recording Without Love.
Betz has played in many bands over the years, but has settled into a cover band, Triplecross, for 16 years that plays classic rock ’n roll, and The Steve Betz Trio, which plays his original tunes. He also leads a worship band at First Christian Church in Helena.
Betz attributes his passion for music to his parents – his mom was a piano teacher and his dad played guitar, bass and keyboards.
He writes, “At an early age I started writing piano pieces. My mother took me to a symphony when I was 10 and I remember wanting to be a conductor for a while after that. I loved the percussive pieces especially. It wasn’t until later in my life I started writing and recording in earnest.”
He began his recording sessions at a home studio. “It was fun creating and building a song from scratch,” he says. Eventually, he moved to Valtron Studios with Mike Liedle, and then on to Soul Tree Recording Studios with Dan Nichols and Liedle where he has recorded his last three CDs.
His fourth album of original music, Kaleidescope – due out in Spring 2013 – uses the talents of many Helena-area musicians. “I love all kinds of music and I think you’ll enjoy the new album for its variety of styles,” he says.
Betz describes his music as “feel-good Americana with Christian threads. Check it out at www.stevebetz.com or email the artist at [email protected].
