Complexions Ballet: Bach to Bowie
Complexions melds the classical sounds of J.S.Bach along with the iconic jams of David Bowie all in one performance.

Complexions Contemporary Ballet brings “Bach to Bowie” to the Alberta Bair Theater in Billings on Tuesday, Oct. 30 at 7:30 p.m. A truncated performance, part of ABT’s Valley Federal Credit Union Student Matinee Series, begins at 12:30.

Combining technical precision, power and passion, Complexions Contemporary Ballet transcends tradition with a groundbreaking mix of styles from ballet to hip hop. Founded by former members of Alvin Ailey, Desmond Richardson and Dwight Rhoden, the company has been featured several times on the hit show “So You Think You Can Dance.”

“We are delighted and excited to share with the audiences in Billings the energy, passion and spirit that Complexions Contemporary Ballet delivers,” said Richardson.  “Touring to new cities and interacting with new communities reinforces our aim of bringing our groundbreaking mix of methods, styles, and cultures to all parts of the world … especially the United States.”

“Since dance is such a display of the human experience, interacting with local dancers and audience members gives our dancers a fresh point of view to draw from,” he adds.

This season the company brings an exhilarating program featuring Rhoden’s “Star Dust” – an “utterly transfixing” tribute to the life and music of David Bowie, full of glitter and glam.  Billboard lauds “Star Dust” as “inventive, emotionally satisfying and just plain joyful … the audience was ravenous for more.”

The first half of the show, “Bach 25” premiered in Arata, Calif., in April 2018.

Complexions Contemporary Ballet makes it “sensationally, jaw-droppingly clear that we live in the age of the super-dancer, at a time when technical virtuosity is being redefined as an expressive state,” writes Dance Magazine.

Tickets, $25-$45, are available at the Alberta Bair Theater Box Office on the corner of 3rd Ave N and N Broadway or by phone at 406-256-6052 during box-office hours, 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday through Friday or 10 a.m.-3 p.m., and online at www.albertabairtheater.org.
