Muir Quartet and Angella Ahn perform in three Montana towns
The Montana Chamber Music Society presents the third installment of its annual concert series with the acclaimed Muir Quartet playing four variety-filled programs in Bozeman, Livingston and Red Lodge.
The acclaimed quartet travels to Livingston Tuesday, March 15, for a performance at the Shane Lalani Center for the Arts; the program includes works for string duo, trio and string quartet by Mozart, Kodaly and Dvorak. Call 222-1420 for details.
The quartet brings that same concert to Bozeman Wednesday, March 16. On Friday, March 18, the group is joined by Bozeman’s own superstar violinist Angella Ahn and pianist Michele Levin in Chausson’s concerto for violin, piano and string quartet. Other works include the Martinu Madrigals for violin and viola and the Dvorak Terzetto for string trio. Both concerts begin at 7:30 p.m. at MSU Reynolds Recital Hall. And for the first time, the MCMS partners with Music from the Beartooths for a concert at 7 p.m. March 17 at St. Agnes Church in Red Lodge. The world-renowned quartet performs works by Haydn and Villa-Lobos and then joins violinist Angella Ahn and pianist Michele Levin for a concerto by Chausson. On March 19, MCMS is partnering with all of the other major arts presenting organizations in Bozeman in an event honoring the late Elise Donohue at the Ellen Theater (stay posted for details).
Ahn, recently appointed professor of violin at MSU, has toured worldwide with the Ahn Trio. The Muir Quartet, now in its 37th season, is in residence at Boston University, and has performed at the White House and Carnegie Hall, and on more than 50 tours to Europe and Asia.
