Tickets are selling fast to Missoula Community Theatre’s production of “Winter Wonderettes” – a family-friendly, entertaining musical, perfectly gift-wrapped for the holidays! The show plays Dec. 12-14 and 17-21 at the MCT Center for the Performing Arts in Missoula. Andy Meyers is the show’s guest director and Lizzie Hatfield is providing music direction.
In this sequel to “The Marvelous Wonderettes,” the same loveable characters – Cindy Lou, Betty Jean, Missy, and Suzy – face a crazy new challenge. During the Christmas party at Harper’s Hardware store, Santa turns up missing and it’s up to the Wonderettes to find him.
The show’s score is packed with humor and holiday tunes arranged to showcase the quartet’s signature four-part harmonies, from silly songs such as “Chipmunk Cheer” and “Mele Kalikimaka” to the classic favorites “Winter Wonderland” and “Santa Claus is Comin’ To Town.”
Andy Meyers also directed this show last December for the Arizona Broadway Theatre and enjoys seeing what the different actresses bring to the story. “There are definitely some poignant moments within this very funny production,” Meyers says. “This show is not really story-heavy; it’s simply two hours of great music to enjoy. A number of the songs were arranged in order to match the time period of 1968, when the show takes place.”
“Winter Wonderettes” was written and created by Roger Bean, in collaboration with Brian Baker for the music and vocal arrangements. During an interview with Arts N Fashion magazine, Bean was asked what he hopes the audience takes away from his shows. His answer? “Pure joy.”
