Talented Helena actor Katy Wright stars in the one-woman show, "Grounded."
Raven’s Feather Productions, Helena’s newest theatre company, launches its inaugural season Feb. 17-March 5 with “Grounded” by George Brant. Katy Wright stars in the one-woman show, directed by Ross Peter Nelson.
“Grounded” tells the story of a female fighter jet pilot who is transferred to drone reconnaissance duty after giving birth and explores the toll it takes on her physically and psychologically. The play examines the mental effects of being trapped between two worlds: shifting back and forth between war and home as a she works 12-hour shifts at war and transitions to being an ordinary family member.
Winner of several awards, including the Smith Prize and Edinburgh’s Fringe First, “Grounded” was hailed as “nuanced and haunting,” by The New York Times, while TimeOut London found it “intense … completely absorbing and hard to forget.”
“We are thrilled that Katy Wright is starring in this exciting, thoughtful show,” says Nelson. “Katy has a reputation as one of Helena’s most talented and well-respected actors, and audience members will be glued to their seats as the story unfolds.”
To further explore the issues of the play, Raven’s Feather is partnering with Helena’s philosophy non-profit, Merlin CCC. During the run, Merlin will conduct two free symposia at 2 p.m. Feb. 20 and 27 with community discussions on “The Military Experience” and “The Ethics of War and Autonomous Warfare.” Attending the play is not necessary to take in the discussions, which will be presented each Sunday for the first two weeks of the run. Raven’s Feather Productions is a non-profit founded by Nelson, Kelly Clavin-Keim, and Barry Stambaugh with the goal of providing exciting contemporary drama by working with the local artistic community. The inaugural production is sponsored in part by a grant from the Montana Arts Council.
