Shoppers will find abundant handcrafted wares at the Mountain Brook Craft Cooperative’s 12th Quilt and Craft Market, Sept. 30-Oct. 1 in the Mountain View Mennonite Church near Creston.
This year’s event includes hand-and machine-quilted quilts and wall hangings, fine art, book-fold art, jewelry, crafts for the kitchen, knitted and crocheted accessories, bags and totes, holiday and home décor, handmade soaps and candles, classic needlework, children’s quilts and accessories and felted wool and fiber items. It’s arranged into themed areas, including Patriotic/Fourth of July, Fall/Thanksgiving and Christmas.
The pantry will feature crafts for the kitchen as well as baked goods and sweet treats, and as wise shoppers know, it’s best to come early because Judy Williams’ cinnamon rolls are freshly baked and usually gone by noon.
The Mountain Brook Craft Cooperative was formed more than a dozen years ago by a group of quilters and crafters living in the Mountain Brook area near Creston. Every item for the annual market is carefully handcrafted by members.
“There are no assembly-line products offered,” says longtime member Carol Beck-Edgar. “And we are proud that our market features mostly made-in-Montana items.”
Although most members are quilters, the group also includes an artist, Sunnie LeBlanc, who has exhibited in Bigfork and Fort Worth, TX. In addition, some new crafters are expanding the market’s offerings to include such items as handmade soaps and candles and unusual folded book art by Beth Hansen, which was a popular item at last year’s sale.
According to Beck-Edgar, prices remain affordable. “In spite of inflation, we have tried to keep prices down and keep a wide range of products for every budget,” she says. “Kids can find a present for Mom that they can afford while shoppers will also find quality products costing several hundred dollars.”
“We have some people who come every year to begin their Christmas shopping,” she adds.
The market is open 10 a.m.-6 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 30, and 10 a.m.-4 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 1. The Mountain View Mennonite Church is located at 795 Mennonite Church Road, off Highway 35 in Creston.
